Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

All those talk about Marvel Cinematic Universe,
I was really excited to watch this, hoping that it will make my day.

How is this movie?
It’s fun but it could have been much much better.

Coming into this movie, I just want to have a great time. Everybody is clapping hands in the cinema when we saw all the awesome trailers that was coming out the last 2 weeks. I can feel like everyone in the cinema is pumped. Got our seats a week before. Thank God we could find great seats. Too long queue to buy popcorn or drinks. We just went straight in. It was at midnight.

Let’s talk about the good things about this movie. It’s great fun. I really love how they are building relationships between the superheroes, Iron Man and Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk, Captain America and Hulk, Thor and Captain America, Romanoff and Captain America, Romanoff and Hulk and so on. It’s a lot of things to fit into this movie. So many relationships, so many characters, and so many developments that Joss had to put into this movie. And I really have to give credit to him. After the first Avengers, people have really high expectations out of this. The trailers were awesome. Everyone was just looking forward to this movie.

The actions were plain awesome. The fight scenes when everything was going down, it’s really going down and its epic. The whole show down with Ultron is really really good. The best scenes are definitely those actions scenes. Ultron is great as a villain and his personality is what makes his presence so much more but i felt like Joss could have done more to make him more sadistic in making the avengers a point of no return. The soundtrack is great. I’m invested in the chemistry between the characters. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver I think they complimented well, they play an important role in the movie. They try to make Hawkeye important and I think it succeeded in doing that.

Now the bad thing about the movie. There’s a love relationship in this movie. You will know who and I don’t buy it at all. I see why but no, not for me. The start of the movie is what bothers me the most. I was really worried at the start when they introduce the characters and the whole action scenes. It was clumsy and choppy, not for me. But when after the logo appeared, from there on, the movie is what it was supposed to be. I don’t know but the trailers gave somewhat a wrong indication of what the movie really is. It’s not THAT dark and it’s not as serious as you think it is. Maybe it is but I don’t felt like it is. I think it’s just the tone that is all over the place. It’s light, it’s dark, it’s comedy, it’s action, and it’s just a lot to take in for this movie. But since its Marvel, you have be light and comedic throughout, it’s their style so when you’re making it dark, it’s hard to go there.

I don’t know about you but I find like how MCU has announced all the movies that they are going release in the next 5/6 years, knowing that Civil War is coming after this, there’s a lot of build up into that. This movie shows that but I wanted more out of this. I find like the ending spoiled it with what they want to achieve in building up to the next movie. It felt so so similar with the first one. And that took me out. I wanted more of the rivalries, more dialogs on their perspectives, trying to sell more on the bigger picture, that sort of script that gives you a hard time choosing sides, understanding what it can really do harm to the team. Yes it addresses it in this movie and it’s really interesting but I felt that the ending didn’t justified it. Ultron does it perfectly but then it was like he came and he went, that sort of feeling. Really could have been much much better.

Overall, I’m not trashing over this movie but I felt like coming into this movie, I really had the expectation that it could been more than what it is. But it was a great movie and it’s really fun. What works in the first was transferred into this movie. Do go watch this movie no matter what. Follow the movies, understand the story. It’s very interesting to talk about these comic book characters and how the story unfolds. I literally can’t wait for Batman v. Superman for a different tone and style. Will this be a sign of fatigue? I don’t know. Anyway, there’s an end-credit 2 minutes into the credits, you don’t have to wait till the very end. There’s none at the end.

Enemy Review

I was saving the right time to watch this movie.
Until now, I can’t stop thinking about this movie.

How is this movie?
It’s worth every minute. I urge everyone to go see this movie.

Enemy

Directed by: Denis Villeneuve
Cinematography: Nicolas Bolduc
Music by: Daniel Bensi, Saunder Jurriaans
Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon, Isabella Rossellini

This movie is about a guy named Adam who is a school teacher. One day, a colleague recommends him to watch a movie title: ‘When There’s a Will, There’s a Way’. He finds out that there’s a person in that movie that looks exactly like him. Adam then finds his way on this journey to find who that person is and who he really is.

This is a psychological thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve, who was the director of Prisoners. This movie is definitely not conventional at all. It’s different. I don’t know whether if I watched this type of film before but it’s refreshing, it felt new to me, the way it is directed, the way it was shot, how to music blends in to build the tension, the tone that the music sets, that almost atmospheric, eerie feeling, like something is really spooky about this story. Straight after this movie, I just went online and search what is the explanation for this, what does it really meant. There are spiders in this movie, literally spiders and I want to know what does it all meant.

It’s great cinema. This movie is worth watching every minute of it. Every bit fits to the puzzle as you go along with the movie. Maybe it’s a bit long winded and some plot holes here and there. But you’ll leave with more questions than answers. Not in a bad way but a good way, a way that makes you think. I love that about these type of movies. I love how it can confuse you, with all the imagery that they have, the smart script that explains a certain idealogy leading up in telling the story.

Overall, it’s a great movie. I think filmmakers should aspire to make this kind of films. Maybe it’s just the indie me of wanting more of these type of films. Although it may not be a blockbusters but it’s this type of movies that made me love cinema.

I’ll be uploading a full explanation of the movie in the next post. Tune in for it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser 2 Trailer Review

Pause everything that you are doing.
GO and WATCH if you haven’t watch it!

Wait.
Don’t tell me you haven’t watch it yet.

Here’s the first teaser trailer that was released a few months back.

Here’s the recent second teaser trailer today!

I can’t be more excited for what’s coming in December (Kinda rip off Mister Fantastic’s lines). Anyway, it was early in the morning, like literally got out the bed, check my phone for updates and bam! Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer!

So much emotions to handle when I watched the whole thing. I really love the tone, what the teaser showed us, and it did no ruin anything for me. Coming to trailers, you don’t want to be spoiled by what it shows, the trailer makes you excited, makes you want to go and watch the movie.

This is the teaser trailer we are talking about and the main trailer is yet to come. Possibly during June/July, when it’s nearer to the premiere, i’m pretty sure that trailer is going to be awesome too. I really have faith in JJ Abrams and I’ve always been a fan of his work. I’m really really REALLY  excited for Star Wars.

I’ll most probably have a Star Wars marathon before the movie comes out. It’s been a long time since i watched Star Wars. Ahh anyway what really stood out for me from the trailer was:

– I think it was a Star Destroyer from the start of the trailer in the background [EPIC]

– Luke’s monologue of the force:

“The Force is strong in my family,
My father has it,
I have it,
My sister has it,
You have that power too.”

– Darth Vader’s cracked, melted, helmet! AHH

– All the action, all the things that are flying here and there, the ‘chew-chew-chew’, explosions, stormtroopers, R2-D2, new characters (don’t know who are they, the girl is hot!)

– Han Solo’s shot with Chewbacca 😦 “We’re home”

Anyway, i’m excited and I just want to see the movie already. Tell me what are your thoughts on the new Star Wars teaser trailer!

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Fast and Furious 7 Review

I can’t wait any longer. I went to the cinema myself and got a comfortable seat and yes I’ve finally watched it.

How’s the movie?
One word,
Fun.

Fast and Furious 7

Directed by: James Wan
Written by: Chris Morgan
Edited by: Christian Wagner, Leigh Folsim Boyd, Dylan Highsmith, Kirk M. Morri
Cinematography: Stephen F. Windon, Marc Spicer
Music by: Brian Tyler
Stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham and Ludacris

This is the 7 installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. It keeps getting better and better. The stakes are much higher, it’s a lot more riskier, a lot more action and a lot more impossible.

Well this movie is about Owen Shaw’s brother, Deckard Shaw who seeks revenge for his brother. If you have watched the last Fast and Furious, Fast & Furious 6, you will know what happened that leads up to this movie. Everybody is back and there you go, a very entertaining and emotional movie.

First things first, it’s really fun. I enjoy this movie because of the things you would enjoy from a Fast and Furious movie. The cars, the hot girls and the action. The franchise has seen its change of direction, story and plot wise. It’s not just about fast cars and big booties. It’s about the story, the heist. What are they going to do this time? We have seen them dealing with tanks, huge airplanes, jumping off a cliff, everything that deems impossible, they managed to do it. You can overdo it sometimes, like the last movie, it would seem unrealistic, but its fun, more like guilty pleasures. This movie you would see a lot more of that, like literally most of the movie. The movie knows it and you know it too.

You can’t expect more of the acting here. Everyone I would say are good in this movie. Jason Statham is an extreme badass in this movie. That’s why I love him in action movies, he brings it. Tyrese who plays Roman Pearce is funny as always. I mean really, really funny. Just love him in this movie. Those one liners in this movie though. Anyway, everybody else gives a good performance that you will somewhat invest in their characters. That eventually in the end, if you followed this franchise, and if you heard or seen anything with regards to Paul Walker, you will feel it. I guess most of you would have seen it by now. A great way to send his character away. #themfeels

Well, I can’t say more than to point out a few things. First is the director. James Wan, you can see from this movie, he is trying. He is known for his horror movies like Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious. It’s a very different direction for him to direct this movie. You can see that he is trying to put the conventional way of directing these movie with fast cuts, the obvious shots of booties and just the shaky cams. Ah, one thing that annoys me is the shaky cams, and especially the fast cuts.

In my opinion, you can make a movie like this being smooth and entertaining without the fast cuts and shaky cams. Maybe it’s his first time directing this type of movies but I really feel like he should transfer what he has been known for in his horror movies, that he has crafted over the years and put that into this movie. It can be so much more of an experience. It doesn’t mean you have follow the way how these movies are shot. That’s one thing I was anticipating but yet didn’t get out from this movie.

Other than that, story-line wise, my personal preference, I feel like I miss the old law breakers vs. the police but I guess the franchise has gone so big to ever go back to those roots. When the number shows in the box office, it will continue with what works for them.

Overall, it’s a fun and entertaining movie. I really think everyone should go and watch even if you’re not a fan. Why are you not a fan? At least watch in memory for Paul Walker, a great guy.
